SECRETARY JOEL VILLANUEVA, Director General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), together with partner agencies, led the turnover of 200 units of school armchairs to the Pasong Tamo Elementary School in Quezon City. Sec Joel was joined by Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, Quezon City Representative Kit Belmonte, Director William Ragos of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), former partylist Representative Bernadette Herrera-Dy, assistant schools division superintendent Dr. Freddie Abendano of the Department of Education (DepEd), and TESDA National Capital Region director Mitzi Tangonan. During the program, teachers and students of Pasong Tamo Elementary School surprised Sec Joel with a birthday cake.
The initiative is under the PNoy Bayanihan Project, which puts to good use confiscated logs in the provinces by turning them into school armchairs. PAGCOR provided the funds to purchase equipment to be used in the project, and DepEd takes charge of distributing the armchairs to school beneficiaries.
"Maraming mga environmentalist at mga kawani ng ating pamahalaan ang nagbuwis ng buhay upang ipagtanggol ang ating kalikasan at usigin ang mga nanga-abuso sa ating kapaligiran… Kung kaya’t hinihikayat natin ang ating mga mag-aaral na alagaan nila ang mga silyang ito upang magamit ng mga susunod pang henerasyon…”
“Sa TESDA, may choice ka.” – SECRETARY JOEL VILLANUEVA
