The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has lined up various events to celebrate and commemorate National Tech-Voc Day, and the role that the agency has been playing to deliver quality technical vocational education and training to Filipinos for the past 29 years.

“We have prepared many activities for our anniversary and National Tech-Voc Day in which the public can participate and enjoy with us. Primarily, these will exhibit our services and programs to make our kababayans more aware of what we have to offer them,” said TESDA Secretary Suharto Mangudadatu.

The celebrations started with the announcement of the winner of TESDA logo making contest for its new slogan, “Sa TESDA, Lingap Ay Maasahan,” which was opened to the public last July 17.

Last August 11 and 16, TESDA conducted the technical vocational education and training (TVET) eFora Series 2023 which was streamed through its official Facebook page with the topics “Transitioning to a Knowledge-based Economy thru Lifelong Learning in TVET”, and “Investing in TVET for Social Inclusion”, respectively.

From August 22 to 24, the activities will be conducted at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong. Here, TESDA will officially start the activities with the launch of its new slogan, “Sa TESDA, Lingap Ay Maassahan,”. During this ceremony, TESDA Secretary Suharto T. Mangudadatu, and SM President Steven Tan will deliver their respective messages.

After this, TESDA will hold its jobs linkaging and enrollment activities as part of the National Tech-Voc Day Celebrations to help tec-voc graduates find jobs, and for the public to avail of TESDA’s different scholarships.

An industry forum with the topic "TVET Graduate ang Choice ko sa Bagong Pilipinas" will be conducted to discuss engagements of the industry in TVET, the industry's wider participation in developing a globally-competitive and job-ready workforce, and in providing equal opportunities to TVET graduates in hiring.

Likewise, for the three consecutive days, different skills demonstrations and orientations have been arranged to showcase TVET skills and technologies, market the products of TESDA, and promote the TESDA graduates who are now running their own businesses. These demonstrations include: cooking (featuring a celebrity chef); flairtending; mocktails preparation (non-alcoholic beverages); pottery; leatherworks; bonsai making; beads making; slippers and bag making; learning session on resume writing; handloom weaving; and, renewable energy (smart farming).

There will also be demonstrations on basic life support and first aid for vehicular accidents; CNC lathe machine; computerized simulated welding; PV systems installation; internet of things (basic home automation); and, computerized LED repair

TESDA will also hold an exhibit for the use of extended reality (XR) technology in training and assessment. The event, which has been organized in cooperation with the Philippine Constructors Association, Inc. (PCA) and First Balfour among others, will also feature insights on the use of XR technology in TVET from experts from private and government organizations.

Aside from this, agreements will be signed between TESDA and private companies and associations such as Microsoft Philippines, San Miguel Corporation (SMC), and IT & BPM Association of the Philippines, among others.

In addition, TESDA will enter into agreements with various government agencies such as the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Department of Tourism (DOT), and National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), among others.

As in the past, these agreements and partnerships will lead to TESDA’s closer coordination with the private and public sectors for the continuous development of tech-voc training standards and improvement in the delivery of training programs.

Further, TESDA will be bestowing the Kabalikat Awards to honor its outstanding partners from various sectors, as well as the Idols ng TESDA Awards to give recognition to tech-voc graduates who have attained remarkable success in their chosen field or occupation.

“These activities have been selected to further develop and nurture our partnerships and collaborations with TVET stakeholders, as well as to recognize their contributions to the sector,” said Secretary Mangudadatu.

Meanwhile, a symposium on Gender and Development (GAD) TVET will be conducted in cooperation with the TESDA Women’s Center and will feature an interactive panel discussion with women in non-traditional trades and success stories of women TVET graduates, among others.
During the forum, stakeholders will discuss issues and matching strategies to address gender discrimination and promote social inclusion and safe spaces in TVET.

On August 25, TESDA will launch the National Technical Education and Skills Development Plan (NTESDP) 2023-2028 at the Manila Peninsula in Makati City. Formulated in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and in collaboration with different stakeholders, the NTESDP is the national blueprint for the TVET sector. The event is expected to be graced by President Marcos Jr., United States Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson, and Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma.

“Through these celebrations, we hope that we can continue to change the public’s mindset regarding tech-voc education and training. We want our kababayans to feel that TESDA will always be there to provide compassionate care until our trainees and graduates succeed,” explained Secretary Mangudadatu.
