Choosing the right career and training program has become easier for Filipinos with the help of a new career profiling tool developed by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to match learners’ interests, abilities, and skills with appropriate technical-vocational education and training (TVET) pathways.
Called TESDA Skills COMPASS (Career Orientation and Matching for Professional Advancement and Support System), the tool was officially launched on August 24 at the Mall of Asia Music Hall.
The Skills COMPASS supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to address the country’s jobs-skills mismatch by ensuring that education and training programs are more closely aligned with the demands of the labor market.
Developed under the leadership of Secretary Kiko Benitez, this initiative strengthens TESDA’s efforts to help Filipinos make informed decisions about their skills development and careers.
“The Skills COMPASS measures your skills, interests, and potential, and aligns them with the needs of today's job market,” Secretary Benitez said. “Everybody wins with the Skills COMPASS kasi nagbibigay siya ng direksyon. The job aspirants get career guidance, while the industry gets in a better position to find strong employee matches for their job openings.”
Skills COMPASS provides learners with a comprehensive profile of their interests, capabilities, and skills that can serve as a basis for career guidance and the selection of appropriate TVET programs and qualifications.
The instrument assesses key areas relevant to education, training, and employment, including career interests and employability skills, socio-emotional skills, 21st-century skills, trade skills, and foundational skills. These provide a broader picture of an individual’s competencies and areas for development beyond academic performance alone.
After completing the assessment, a TESDA guidance counselor or designated career advocate helps the learner understand the results and identify TVET qualifications or training programs that may be appropriate based on their profile.
For prospective trainees, this provides an opportunity to consider their career options before committing to a particular training program. The assessment can help them recognize their strengths, identify areas for improvement, and explore career paths that correspond with their interests and capabilities.
At the workforce level, TESDA expects Skills COMPASS to contribute to reducing jobs-skills mismatch by strengthening the connection between individual capabilities, training choices, and employment opportunities.
The initiative supports TESDA’s continuing efforts to make TVET more responsive to the needs and aspirations of Filipinos and to help ensure that skills training leads to better employment opportunities, career growth, and improved livelihoods.
TESDA Skills COMPASS tumutulong sa mga Pilipino na makagawa ng matalinong pagpili sa karera
Mas madali na para sa mga Pilipino ang pagpili ng tamang karera at programa sa pagsasanay sa tulong ng bagong career profiling tool na binuo ng Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). Layunin nitong itugma ang mga interes, kakayahan, at kasanayan ng mga mag-aaral sa angkop na mga landas sa technical-vocational education and training (TVET).
Tinawag na TESDA Skills COMPASS (Career Orientation and Matching for Professional Advancement and Support System), opisyal na inilunsad ang tool noong Agosto 24 sa Mall of Asia Music Hall.
Sinusuportahan ng Skills COMPASS ang direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na tugunan ang jobs-skills mismatch sa bansa sa pamamagitan ng pagtitiyak na mas naaayon ang mga programa sa edukasyon at pagsasanay sa mga pangangailangan ng labor market.
Binuo sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Secretary Kiko Benitez, pinalalakas ng inisyatibang ito ang mga hakbang ng TESDA upang matulungan ang mga Pilipino na makagawa ng mas may sapat na kaalaman at batayang desisyon hinggil sa kanilang pagpapaunlad ng kasanayan at karera.

Nagbibigay ang Skills COMPASS sa mga mag-aaral ng komprehensibong profile ng kanilang mga interes, kakayahan, at kasanayan na maaaring maging batayan sa career guidance at pagpili ng mga angkop na TVET program at qualification.
Tinatasa ng instrumento ang mahahalagang larangang may kaugnayan sa edukasyon, pagsasanay, at trabaho, kabilang ang mga career interest at employability skills, socio-emotional skills, 21st-century skills, trade skills, at foundational skills. Nagbibigay ang mga ito ng mas malawak na larawan ng kakayahan ng isang indibidwal at mga larangang maaari pang paunlarin, higit pa sa nakikitang resulta ng akademikong pagganap.
Matapos makumpleto ang assessment, tutulungan ng isang TESDA guidance counselor o itinalagang career advocate ang mag-aaral na maunawaan ang mga resulta at tukuyin ang mga TVET qualification o training program na maaaring angkop batay sa kanyang profile.
Para sa mga nais sumailalim sa pagsasanay, nagbibigay ito ng pagkakataong mapag-isipan muna ang kanilang mga opsyon sa karera bago magpasya sa isang partikular na training program. Makakatulong ang assessment upang matukoy nila ang kanilang mga kalakasan, matukoy ang mga larangang kailangan pang paunlarin, at tuklasin ang mga career path na naaayon sa kanilang mga interes at kakayahan.
Sa antas ng workforce, inaasahan ng TESDA na makatutulong ang Skills COMPASS sa pagbawas ng jobs-skills mismatch sa pamamagitan ng pagpapalakas ng ugnayan sa pagitan ng indibidwal na kakayahan, pagpili ng pagsasanay, at mga oportunidad sa trabaho.
Sinusuportahan ng inisyatiba ang patuloy na pagsisikap ng TESDA na gawing mas tumutugon ang TVET sa pagtiyak na ang skills training ay humahantong sa mas magandang oportunidad sa trabaho, paglago ng karera, at mas maayos na kabuhayan.
