More child development workers are now equipped to provide quality services in their communities as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) continues to expand its Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) training program nationwide.

Latest TESDA data show that 2,189 trainees nationwide have already completed the Early Childhood Care Development Services NC III program out of 3,417 enrollees, strengthening the country’s pool of trained and certified child development workers.

The growing number of graduates under TESDA’s Early Childhood Care Development Services NC III program supports President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s goal of making quality healthcare, nutrition, and early learning more accessible to Filipino families, especially during a child’s formative years.

TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez emphasized the important role that ECCD graduates now play in improving the quality of care and developmental support available to young Filipino children.

“President Marcos has consistently underscored the importance of accessible healthcare, nutrition, and quality education for every Filipino family. Sa gamit  ng ECCD programs ng TESDA, napapalakas natin ang ating healthcare workers na tutulong maghubog sa ating kabataan,” Sec. Kiko said.

“These trained and certified child development workers will help make quality care, early learning, and developmental support more accessible to Filipino children and families across the country,” he added.

The training expansion comes following the signing of Republic Act No. 12199, or the “Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) System Act,” in May 2025. The law seeks to strengthen early education, health, and nutrition programs for Filipino children from birth to age 5.

Under the law, TESDA plays a key role in professionalizing ECCD workers through technical vocational education and training, competency assessment, and national certification programs. TESDA is also tasked to develop and implement qualifications and standards that will help ensure quality ECCD service delivery nationwide.

One of the recent graduates, Mary Jean Tayo Narag, 54, a child development worker in Sta. Catalina, Zamboanga City, shared how the training further enhanced her abilities to do her job.

“Malaki ang naitulong ng TESDA sa akin dahil pinalawak nito ang aking kakayahan, nagbigay ito ng advanced at mas teknikal na kaalaman dahil sa hands-on training at aktuwal na assessment,” said Narag.

“Huwag ipagkait ang Karapatan ng batang makapag-aral. Dapat dalhin ang mga anak sa Child Development Center para mag-aral. Mahalaga ito para sila ay matutong makihalubilo sa kapwa nila bata at para mabigyan sila ng tamang nutrisyon,” she added when asked of the importance of early childhood care and development.

The Early Childhood Care Development Services NC III program equips graduates with competencies in supporting child growth and development, promoting health and nutrition, maintaining safe and healthy learning environments, and assisting in age-appropriate learning activities for children.

TESDA said it will continue expanding ECCD training opportunities nationwide to help produce more skilled and compassionate child development workers in support of the full implementation of the ECCD System Act.

Mas maraming child development workers na ang may kakayahang magkaloob ng de kalidad na serbisyo sa kanilang komunindad kasabay ng pagpapalawak ng Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) sa Early Childhood Care and Development training program sa buong bansa.
 
Ayon sa pinakahuling datos ng TESDA, may 2,189 trainees na ang nakakumpleto ng Early Childhood Care and Development Services NC III program mula sa 3,417 enrollees. Ito ang patuloy na nagpapalakas sa bilang ng mga nagsanay at sertipikadong child development workers sa bansa.

Ang lumalaking bilang ng mga nagtapos sa ilalim ng Early Childhood Care and Development Services NC III program ng TESDA ay sumusuporta sa mithiin ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. na gawing abot-kamay ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino ang de kalidad na pangangalaga sa kalusugan, nutrisyon at maagang pagkatuto lalo na sa panahon ng formative years ng isang bata.

Binigyang-diin ni TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez ang mahalagang papel na ginagampanan ng mga ECCD graduates para sa mas may kalidad na pangangalaga at developmental support para sa mga batang Pilipino.

Ang pagpapalawak ng training ay kasunod ng paglagda sa Republic Act No. 12199 o ang “Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Act” noong Mayo 2025. Ang batas ang higit na nagpapalakas sa mga programang may kinalaman sa edukasyon, kalusugan at nutrisyon ng mga batang Pilipino mula pagsilang hanggang limang taong gulang.

Sa ilalim ng batas, pangunahing papel ng TESDA ang pagsasa-propesyunal ng mga ECCD workers sa pamamagitan ng technical vocational education and training, competency assessment at national certification programs. Inatasan rin ang TESDA na bumuo at magpatupad ng mga qualifications at standards na titiyak sa de kalidad na serbisyo ng ECCD sa buong bansa.

Isa sa mga nagtapos si Mary Jean Tayo Narag, 54 taong gulang, isang child development worker sa Sta. Catalina, Zamboanga City na nagbahagi kung paanong nakatulong ang training sa pagpapaunlad ng kanyang kakayahan sa trabaho.

“Malaki ang naitulong ng TESDA sa akin dahil pinalawak nito ang aking kakayahan, nagbigay ito ng advanced at mas teknikal na kaalaman dahil sa hands-on training at aktuwal na assessment,” sabi ni Narag.

“Huwag ipagkait ang karapatan ng batang makapag-aral. Dapat dalhin ang mga anak sa Child Development Center para mag-aral. Mahalaga ito para sila ay matutong makihalubilo sa kapwa nila bata at para mabigyan sila ng tamang nutrisyon,” dagdag pa niya nang tanungin sa kahalagahan ng early childhood care and development.

Ang programa ng Early Childhood Care and Development Services NC III ay tumutulong na maging handa ang bawat graduate sa mga competencies na nagsusulong sa kalusugan at nutrisyon, pagtiyak ng ligtas at wastong kapaligiran para matuto at pagdisenyo ng mga aktibidad na angkop sa edad ng mga bata.

Tiniyak ng TESDA na patuloy nitong palalawakin ang ECCD training opportunities sa buong bansa upang maparami pa ang bilang ng mga skilled at compassionate child development workers na katuwang sa pagpapatupad ng ECCD System Act.
