Pursuant to the directive and mandate of President Rodrigo Duterte that poverty reduction programs be transformed from dole-outs to a more permanent employment, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Regional Office 5 spearheaded a region-wide industry consultation on skills needs and priorities, September 7, Tuesday at the Villa Caceres Hotel.
This is also in consonance with the Technical Vocational Education and Training’s (TVET) reform and development agenda crafted by TESDA for the next six (6) years starting off in 2017 until 2022. TESDA Financial and Management Service Executive Director Ma. Magdalena P. Butad and DDG for Communities and Local Government Unit Services Atty. Diosdado O. Padilla explained during the confab that they have to develop policies, programs and strategies for the entire TVET sector along with the TVET Poverty reduction program framework. “Our mandate is not only focused in crafting these strategies, we also need to communicate these new directions and priorities to all TVET stakeholders, particularly the target beneficiaries of the program.
After the consultation, TESDA will be able to update its stakeholders with the current situation of TVET and to generate consensus and support for the attainment of TESDA’s vision of reducing poverty, sustainable inclusive growth and decent employment for every Filipino.
