Cagayan de Oro City – Industry sectors from agriculture and construction supported the two-day TVET Industry Consultation spearheaded by TESDA Region 10 held at the Mallberry Suites Business Hotel last June 10 and 11, 2019, respectively.
The consultation identified and validated information on the current and future skills or jobs requirements of the industry (particularly tech-voc skills), and discussed areas of partnerships on technical education and skills development (TESD) programs.
Major key players in the TVET sector shared their reputable knowledge on the development trends and projected skills requirements of the projected industry. The resource persons included Ptr. Ronnel E. Bayron, President of Yahshua Outsourcing Worldwide, Inc., who shared the emerging online platform for job recruitment and Dir. Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño, CESO III, Regional Director of the NEDA-X, presented the updates on Northern Mindanao’s Regional Development Investment Plan 2017-2022.
Dr. Irene L. Floro, President of Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry (COCI), explained COCI’s Education to Employment (E2E) Model on Industry-Based and Partnership-Focused Community Transformation while Engr. Deliza T. Camaro of the DA-10 presented DA’s Modernization and Development Strategic Plan.
Mr. Vicente E. Cruz, Vocational School Administrator of LNNAIS and Engr. Henry S. Binahon, Agribusinessman and Owner of Binahon AgroForestry Farm, each presented their best practices and success stories in instilling green TVET and boosting agricultural produce.
The PNP-10 represented by Police Major Ignacio M. Gamba III and Police Staff Sergeant Ritchel M. Tesoro, as members of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group informed the participants of the possible cyber mistakes done online through social media and ways to prevent them.
Mr. Hugh Van Erik Q. Tolentino of DPWH-10 cited updates on the Build, Build, Build program which include the partnership and infrastructure plan with TESDA-10, and the accomplished and on-going projects for Northern Mindanao.
Engr. Loel O. Mañigo, Center Administration of TESDA RTC-Tagoloan, enjoined the participants to take part in the TESD programs and collaborate with TESDA to ensure complementation of industry and TVET programs.
The highlight of the activity was the validation of the projected industry skills priorities, particularly the skills required by or critical to the industry for the current year (2019) and in the next three (3) years (2020-2022). Also included was the identification of issues or concerns of the industry related to TESD. This was facilitated by Ms. Marigold Cherie R. Garrido, Chief of TESDA-10 Regional Operations Division.
“We wanted to increase the competency level of our TVET graduates, we can only do that with your (the industry) help,” RD Tarhata S. Mapandi quoted during her message.
She also underpinned in her message that “we should value our skilled, competent and globally-ready, workforce”.
