The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) was among the government agencies that participated in the Serbisyo Caravan program held at the Commonwealth Elementary School in Quezon City last August 12.

TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong said that the Serbisyo Caravan is one of the government's initiatives to ensure that services are accessible to communities in remote places.

At the Serbisyo Caravan, Mamondiong said that the major programs and services of TESDA offered to the public were Skills Training Program, Scholarship Program and Competency Assessment and Certification.

Mamondiong said the students may now avail of the TESDA scholarship program via the Online Scholarship Application, Walk-In Scholarship Application and Barangay Skills Need Survey.

Under the Online Scholarship Application, interested applicant may visit the TESDA website www.tesda.gov.ph, for Walk-in Scholarship Application, interested people may drop by any TESDA branches nationwide while the Barangay Skills Need Survey may secure their application forms in their barangay.

“As part of this Agency’s two-pronged strategy for poverty reduction, we are striving for social equity by making technical vocational education and training available and accessible to more and more of our countrymen who have otherwise been neglected.  We have opened our doors wider to drug dependent surrenderers and their family members; to the out-of-school youth; the unemployed; for returning OFWs and their dependents; to those in the basic and marginalized sectors; to family members of the AFP and PNP personnel killed or wounded in action; and, to inmates and detainees including their families,” said Mamondiong.

Apart from TESDA, other government agencies that took part in the caravan were Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Health (DOH), National Youth Commission (NYC), National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista.

“The Serbisyo Caravan and other similar activities are indispensable in making our people aware of what this government is doing and what opportunities are being made available for them.  I encourage everyone to make the most of this occasion as this is for you and for your family," added Mamondiong.
